The confluence
The old town sits on a tongue of land where the clear, green river Steyr flows into the Enns, just below Schloss Lamberg. The best views are from the bridges and from the heights around the town.
Kalkalpen National Park
Steyr presents itself as the gateway to the Kalkalpen National Park; the tourism region is called “Steyr und die Nationalpark Region”. The park covers about 210 km² of limestone mountains and forests, and its old beech forests are part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Cycling the Enns (R7)
The Ennsradweg, the long-distance cycle path along the Enns (about 240–280 km depending on the route), passes through Weyer, Ternberg and Steyr before ending in Enns, where it joins the Danube cycle path.
Steyrtalbahn
For a slower trip into the valley of the Steyr, take the museum steam train from Steyr to Grünburg. Steyrtalbahn details.
